# NASH Safe Exam Browser (SEB) and DepEd LMS: Test-Day Guide

How the NASH is taken on the DepEd LMS through the Safe Exam Browser: laptop requirements, SEB setup, login, the 9:00 a.m. quiz, and a test-day checklist.

This is the Markdown copy of [NASH Safe Exam Browser (SEB) and DepEd LMS: Test-Day Guide](https://nash.com.ph/blog/nash-safe-exam-browser-lms-guide), an article on the NASH Reviewer Blog by Mark Anthony Llego, published Oct 26, 2026, updated Nov 4, 2026. Topics: Aspiring school heads. NASH Reviewer is an independent practice platform not affiliated with DepEd, BHROD, or NEAP.

The National Assessment for School Heads (NASH, formerly the NQESH) is taken on a laptop. The platform is the Department of Education (DepEd) Learning Management System (LMS) at lms.deped.gov.ph, opened only through the Safe Exam Browser (SEB). Below are the laptop requirements, SEB installation, login, the three-hour quiz and lost connections, then a checklist for the week before, the night before and the morning of the assessment.

The steps are those DepEd used for the FY 2025 NASH Batch 2, held in May 2026 after two reschedules (Batch 1 was held in September 2025). They come from four documents. These are the NASH LMS User Guide of DepEd's Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS), the Administration Guide for Assessment Facilitators, the Technical Guide for NASH Escalation Procedures, and Annex 4 of memorandum DM-OUHROD-2025-3318. The memorandum for the next administration may change any step, so read it when it comes out.

## Key points

- **The NASH runs on the DepEd LMS inside a locked-down browser.** You take it on your own laptop at an assessment site, in a room of 15 takers with one Assessment Facilitator. You open the LMS only through SEB, which blocks other applications while the quiz is open.
- **Your laptop must meet the minimums in the LMS User Guide.** Windows 10 (version 20H2 or later), Windows 11 or macOS 10.15 or later, 4 GB of memory, 500 MB of free disk space and a connection of at least 5 Mbps.
- **Most problems in the mock came from setup, not from the quiz.** After the May 2026 mock, DepEd listed SEB installation and configuration, wrong email addresses in LMS enrollment, and server performance as the issues. Install SEB and log in to the LMS well before the day.
- **You never see the SEB password.** The facilitator types it on your laptop before the quiz and again after any disconnection. A separate quiz password is announced in the room.
- **Answers are saved as you go.** If the connection drops, relaunch SEB, call the facilitator to re-enter the password, and choose to continue the quiz. The three hours keep running and no time is added.
- **Cheating means disqualification.** The facilitator's script warns that a taker caught cheating is disqualified, sent out, and dealt with under [DepEd Order No. 49, s. 2006](https://www.deped.gov.ph/2006/12/12/do-49-s-2006-revised-rules-of-procedure-of-the-department-of-education-in-administrative-cases-amended-by/).

## What the NASH platform is: DepEd LMS and Safe Exam Browser

The DepEd LMS is a web-based learning platform at https://lms.deped.gov.ph. It runs on Moodle, an open-source learning platform used by many schools; after the May 2026 mock, DepEd cited "Moodle performance issues". For the NASH, DepEd adds each taker to a NASH course in the LMS. The assessment itself is a quiz inside that course.

The Safe Exam Browser is free software from safeexambrowser.org. It opens one website in full screen and stops you from switching to other programs while it runs. A small settings file tells SEB which page to open (your region's LMS) and asks for a password before it starts. DepEd's ICTS prepares the settings file, and your technical officer gives it to you.

This is the setup DepEd used for both FY 2025 batches. Older articles describe the exam on a vendor platform, in Chrome or Edge, or with remote proctoring. Those descriptions no longer apply. For the full picture of the assessment itself, read the [NASH guide](https://nash.com.ph/nash) and the app's guide to [how the NASH is taken online](https://nash.com.ph/nash-online-assessment).

## NASH laptop requirements

The LMS User Guide lists these minimum specifications for the device. Check them on your laptop before you install anything.

| Item | Minimum in the NASH LMS User Guide |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 (version 20H2 or later) or Windows 11 (Home or Enterprise); or macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later |
| Processor | Dual-core (Intel Core i3 or AMD Ryzen 3) |
| Memory | At least 4 GB of RAM |
| Storage | At least 500 MB of free disk space |
| Display | 1024 × 768 or higher |
| Internet | Stable connection of at least 5 Mbps, upload and download |
| Device | A laptop with an updated web browser |
| Account | An active DepEd Google account that you use |

To check your Windows version, open Settings, then System, then About. On a Mac, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. The guide lists only Windows and macOS laptops. It does not list tablets, phones or Chromebooks, so do not plan to use one.

Annex 4 of DM-OUHROD-2025-3318 asks regions to choose assessment sites that are not "dead spots" for internet and that have at least 5 Mbps of bandwidth per examinee. Even so, the Administration Guide tells takers to set up their own internet device at their seat. Bring a pocket Wi-Fi, a modem router, or a phone that you will use as a mobile hotspot, with enough load or data for three hours.

## Before the assessment: your DepEd account and LMS profile

Your DepEd email account is your key to the LMS. Annex 1 of DM-OUHROD-2025-3318 tells takers to make sure the account is active and to ask the Schools Division Information Technology Officer (SDITO) for help if they cannot get in. DM-OUHRODI-2026-0789 is the March 2026 memorandum that moved Batch 2 to May. It also reminded all takers "to log in to the Learning Management System (LMS) and update their profiles to prevent any issues during enrollment in the NASH."

### Log in to lms.deped.gov.ph for the first time

1. Open any browser and go to https://lms.deped.gov.ph.
2. On the home page, hover over the regions and choose your region, then your Schools Division Office (SDO).
3. On the login page, sign in with your DepEd Google account. The guide recommends the Google account. The other option is your DepEd Microsoft 365 account, the same one you use for MS Teams.
4. After you sign in, check that the region shown is the region where you are registered as a NASH taker.

If you forgot your password, the LMS User Guide gives three routes. You can use the "Forgot my password" self-service reset, send a reset request to support.email@deped.gov.ph, or ask the information and communications technology (ICT) office of your region or SDO.

### Update your LMS profile and photo

1. After logging in, open your profile. The tutorial video shows the profile icon at the upper right, then the settings button, then Edit profile.
2. Fill in every field marked with a red asterisk.
3. Upload a profile picture by dragging the file into the upload space or by clicking it and choosing the file. The guide says the photo should be "a recent photo taken within the past six (6) months."
4. Scroll to the Demographics section and select the correct user role.
5. Click Update profile.

You cannot fix your own name in the LMS. The guide tells you to contact your Division Information Technology Officer (DITO), who coordinates with ICTS. Do this early. DepEd listed "enrollment and email discrepancies of users" among the issues of the May 2026 mock.

## How to install Safe Exam Browser for the NASH

The installation depends on your laptop. The Technical Guide for NASH Escalation Procedures says to install SEB on the day you receive your NASH examination email.

| Your laptop | How to install SEB |
|---|---|
| DepEd-issued Windows laptop managed through Microsoft Intune | Install from the Company Portal app |
| Personal Windows laptop, or a DepEd laptop not in Intune | Download DepEd's SEB installer and run it |
| Mac (macOS) | Download the latest macOS release from safeexambrowser.org |

### DepEd-issued laptops: Company Portal (Intune)

1. Click the Windows icon on the taskbar and type "Company Portal" in the search box.
2. Open the Company Portal app. The Technical Guide says to make sure it is the Company Portal app and not a result under the Store category.
3. Find Safe Exam Browser in the app and click it.
4. Click Install and follow the instructions.

If Company Portal is not on your laptop, the laptop is not managed through Intune. Use the installer for personal laptops instead.

### Personal Windows laptops: the SEB installer

1. Download the SEB installation file from the link in the LMS User Guide or in your region's advisory. The tutorial video shows the file on a Google Drive page with a Download button.
2. Open your Downloads folder and double-click the installer.
3. Tick "I agree to the license terms and conditions", then click Install.
4. Wait for the installation to finish, then close the window. A Safe Exam Browser icon appears on your desktop.

### macOS: download from safeexambrowser.org

1. Go to safeexambrowser.org in your browser.
2. In the menu on the left, click Download, then Latest Releases, and scroll down to the macOS download button.
3. Click Allow when the browser asks to permit the download.
4. Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag the SEB icon into the Applications folder.

### Get the SEB settings file from your technical officer

Installing SEB is only half the setup. SEB needs the NASH settings file before it can open your region's LMS. All three installation paths in the LMS User Guide end the same way: ask your proctor or roving IT support for the SEB settings file. In Batch 2, the roving IT support was the Technical Officer at the site.

The Technical Guide describes the most common settings error. SEB opens the wrong region, or it does not go to the LMS at all. The fix is to download the correct settings file again and apply it. The guide's prevention step is to check the settings during the mock assessment.

Install the version DepEd gives you, even if SEB is already on your laptop. After the May 2026 mock, DepEd listed "Installation and configuration concerns on the SEB" as the first issue. As the way forward, regional offices were to make sure all takers "install the correct and updated version of SEB."

## Why the NASH mock assessment matters

DepEd holds a mock assessment before the actual assessment, at the same sites, with the same procedures. The Administration Guide gives its purpose: to check takers' devices and to familiarize them with the online platform and the process. The mock quiz in Batch 2 covered NASH administration, the LMS, the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH) and the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) system. It was not a sample of NASH items.

The mock is your test of the setup. DepEd stated it plainly after the May 2026 mock: "The same SEB settings will be applied during the actual assessment and should have already been configured on the NASH taker's device beforehand." If SEB, your login or your hotspot failed in the mock, fix it that week with your technical officer. DepEd also counted 65 assessment sites and 24,069 declared Batch 2 takers. Of the users in the mock, 998 did not complete it.

## Assessment site, room and seating

Annex 4 of DM-OUHROD-2025-3318 sets the site rules. A site is preferably a public secondary school, quiet, with clean restrooms, parking, a waiting area for companions, and security from barangay or police officials. Companions stay in the waiting area.

Each room has 15 desks and chairs suitable for adults. Extra takers are spread across rooms so that no room holds more than 16, unless there are at least nine extra takers to open another room. Seating starts at the facilitator's left and follows alphabetical order. Takers with the same surname are not seated together. In rooms with armchairs, DepEd suggested seating takers facing the wall so that their screens stay visible to the facilitator.

You will meet these people on the day.

| Role | What they do for takers |
|---|---|
| Assessment Facilitator (one per room) | Checks your identity and seat, reads the rules, types the SEB password, supervises the room |
| Technical Officer (roving IT support, one for every three to five rooms) | Fixes SEB, login and connection problems in the room |
| Technical Supervisor (one per site, usually a regional or division IT officer) | Handles problems the Technical Officer cannot fix, including password resets |
| Assessment Supervisor (one per site) | Runs the site and approves SEB password re-entry after a disconnection |
| Central and Regional Office Monitors | Watch the conduct of the assessment for DepEd |

## What to bring and what is allowed on your desk

The facilitator's first rule lists everything allowed on the desk: "laptop device, laptop charger, snacks, hand fan or handheld electric fan, and pocket Wi-Fi or modem router." Everything else goes into your bag, and all bags go to a designated area in front of the room.

| Item | Rule in the Administration Guide |
|---|---|
| Laptop and charger | On your desk |
| Pocket Wi-Fi or modem router | On your desk |
| Snacks | On your desk; you may eat any time without disturbing others |
| Hand fan or handheld electric fan | On your desk |
| Phone used as a mobile hotspot | On the designated table, in silent mode |
| Any other phone | Turned off and kept in your bag |
| Smartwatch and other communication or recording devices | In your bag; use is "strictly prohibited" |
| Bag and other belongings | In the designated area in front of the room |

The facilitator records on the Examinee Attendance and Monitoring Report whether you use a gadget or phone for internet access. Also bring your Assessment Permit, which you received from your SDO after verification and payment, and an ID. DepEd said facilitators may check the ID of a taker who has no permit against the official list for the room. The [NASH application requirements guide](https://nash.com.ph/blog/nash-online-application-requirements) explains how the permit is issued.

## NASH test day step by step

The schedule below combines Annex 4 and the Administration Guide. The times are those of FY 2025 Batch 2.

| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 6:00–7:00 a.m. | Arrival and registration. Takers set up their laptop, Wi-Fi or mobile hotspot, and fan at their assigned seat. |
| 7:00–7:30 a.m. | Final briefing of facilitators and technical officers. |
| 7:30–8:00 a.m. | The facilitator verifies each taker's identity, confirms seats, records attendance and checks device readiness. Technical officers give the SEB password to facilitators. |
| Before 8:00 a.m. | Takers attend to personal necessities. |
| 8:00–9:00 a.m. | The facilitator reads the reminders, then types the SEB password on each laptop. Takers log in and wait on the quiz page. |
| 9:00 a.m. | A bell rings. The assessment starts for everyone at the same time. |
| 9:00 a.m.–12:00 noon | The assessment. Facilitators remind takers 10 minutes and 5 minutes before the end. |
| 12:00 noon | A bell rings. The assessment ends. |
| 12:00–1:00 p.m. | Facilitators make sure everyone has submitted and record completion. |

### 1. Arrive, set up and get verified

Arrive early enough to register and set up before 7:00 a.m. Sit in the seat with your number, connect your charger and internet device, and close every application on your laptop. The facilitator leaves the seats of absent takers empty. A taker who comes late takes the assigned seat but gets no extra time.

### 2. Listen to the reminders

From 8:00 a.m. the facilitator reads 14 rules and reminders. They cover the desk items, the three-hour duration from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, disconnections, personal necessities, the ban on talking, and cheating. Questions about the assessment process are allowed. Questions about any item of the assessment "will not be entertained."

### 3. Open SEB and let the facilitator type the SEB password

1. Find Safe Exam Browser on your desktop or in your applications list, and open it with the SEB settings file from your Information Technology Officer.
2. A window appears asking for a password.
3. Wait. The facilitator goes around the room and types the SEB password on each laptop. The guide tells facilitators to keep this password secure and never post it in the room.
4. SEB opens the NASH landing page of the LMS.

If the landing page does not open, call the facilitator so the technical officer can check your settings.

### 4. Log in with your DepEd Google or Microsoft account

1. On the landing page, click the Log in button at the upper right, the NASH image, or the link "National Assessment for School Heads".
2. Check that the region shown on the login page is your region.
3. Log in with your DepEd Google account. The facilitator's script says, "It is recommended to use the google account."
4. If you use your DepEd Microsoft account instead, Microsoft sends a verification code to your phone. This is the only time you may use your phone. The script allows it only to receive the code, and the phone "must be returned to the designated table."
5. On the NASH main page, click the "click here" button and then the test link at the bottom.
6. Stay on the assessment page. The quiz cannot be opened until 9:00 a.m.

### 5. Start the quiz at 9:00 a.m. with the quiz password

When the bell rings, the facilitator tells you to click "Attempt quiz now". Do not click it before the signal, because all takers start together. The quiz also has a quiz password, separate from the SEB password. In Batch 2, facilitators announced it at the start and could write it on the board. The SEB password stayed confidential.

### 6. Answer, flag and use the quiz navigation

The assessment page has four parts. The status box at the left shows the item number, whether you have answered it, and a "Flag question" link. The question and its options are in the center. The quiz navigation panel is at the right, and Previous and Next page buttons are at the bottom.

| Look of the number in quiz navigation | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Highlighted in black | The item you are on now |
| Gray | Answered |
| Unmarked | Not yet answered |
| Red flag | Flagged for review |

Click any number to jump to that item. Flag an item when you are unsure, then come back to it if time allows. The Administration Guide says your progress and the time remaining are shown at the right side of the screen. Your timer starts when you begin the quiz and stops when you click "Submit all and finish".

## If you get disconnected during the NASH

The Administration Guide is direct: "All items answered prior to disconnection will be saved." Do not panic and do not restart your laptop first. Follow the facilitator's script.

1. Log out of SEB, or close it, and open SEB again with the settings file.
2. Raise your hand. The facilitator must type the SEB password again.
3. Log in to the LMS again with the same account.
4. Click "Continue quiz". Your saved answers are still there.

Re-entry is recorded. The facilitator fills in an SEB Password Re-entry Monitoring Report with your examinee code, your name and signature, the time of re-entry, and the reason. Annex 4 says further access after a log-out or disconnection must be approved by the Assessment Supervisor. The clock does not stop while you reconnect, so keep your hotspot charged and placed where the signal is strong.

## Personal necessities and snacks during the assessment

Attend to personal necessities before 8:00 a.m. After the quiz starts, only one taker at a time may leave the room. You may not bring your phone, any other communication device, or any paper. The facilitator covers your laptop screen with a blank folder while you are out.

The time you spend outside counts against your three hours. The script says this time "will be part of the three (3) hours assessment duration." You may eat your snacks at any time, as long as you do not disturb other takers.

## Finishing the NASH: Finish attempt, Submit all and finish, evaluation form

1. On the last item, click Next page or "Finish attempt".
2. The summary page lists every item. Go back to flagged or unanswered items if you have time.
3. Click "Submit all and finish", then confirm with "Submit all and finish" in the prompt.
4. Open the evaluation form from the link on your screen and complete it. The LMS User Guide calls this the final step. After it, you cannot make another attempt.
5. You receive an email notification for the completed evaluation form. Tell the facilitator, who records it on the attendance report.
6. Log out, close SEB, shut down your laptop, and stay seated and quiet.

If time runs out before you submit, the LMS submits your attempt automatically. No one may leave the room before the dismissal announcement, even after finishing early.

## NASH integrity rules: what counts as cheating

The rules on integrity are short. You may not talk with other takers. You may not use a phone, smartwatch or any other device, except the hotspot phone on the table and the Microsoft verification code at login. Only DepEd's LMS may run on your laptop, and facilitators walk around to check this.

The facilitator's rule 13 reads: "Anyone caught cheating shall automatically be DISQUALIFIED to take the assessment and shall be SENT OUT IMMEDIATELY." The taker is then dealt with under the Revised Rules of Procedure of the Department of Education in Administrative Cases ([DepEd Order No. 49, s. 2006](https://www.deped.gov.ph/2006/12/12/do-49-s-2006-revised-rules-of-procedure-of-the-department-of-education-in-administrative-cases-amended-by/)), explained in [DepEd Administrative Cases and Grievances: DO 49 and DO 35](https://nash.com.ph/blog/deped-administrative-cases-grievances-guide). [DepEd Memorandum No. 069, s. 2025](https://www.deped.gov.ph/2025/08/11/august-11-2025-dm-069-s-2025-administration-of-the-national-assessment-for-school-heads-for-fiscal-year-2025/) adds a warning against anyone who offers paid access to test content. Any attempt to obtain the content or to bribe officials may lead to administrative action under the same order.

## How technical problems are escalated on test day

You report every problem to your facilitator. You do not contact IT staff or the Central Office yourself. The Technical Guide for NASH Escalation Procedures sets three levels of support.

| Level | Who handles it | Typical problems |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Examination room | Technical Officer or DITO | SEB installation or launch errors, slow internet, trouble reaching the LMS, a taker on the wrong platform |
| 2. Examination site | Technical Supervisor (DITO or Regional IT Officer) | Login credentials that do not work, password resets, the SEB password |
| 3. Central Office | DepEd ICTS, the Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development (BHROD) and the LMS team | Platform-wide failures, whole-day interruptions, integrity concerns, removal of multi-factor authentication (MFA) |

The facilitator reports to the Technical Officer. If the Technical Officer cannot fix the problem, it goes to the Technical Supervisor, who reports to the Central Office through an online form when needed. In Batch 2, DepEd allowed division and regional IT officers to remove or reset MFA on Google accounts directly. Microsoft account MFA concerns went to the Central Office. This is one more reason to log in with your Google account.

## After the NASH: results, ICOR and IDR

DepEd releases NASH results through a DepEd memorandum. Batch 2 results came out in [DepEd Memorandum No. 044, s. 2026](https://www.deped.gov.ph/2026/07/04/july-4-2026-dm-044-s-2026-results-of-the-national-assessment-for-school-heads-for-fiscal-year-2025-batch-2/). The [NASH results page](https://nash.com.ph/nash-results) explains both FY 2025 batches, and the [Batch 2 results page](https://nash.com.ph/nash-results/fy-2025-batch-2) covers the second.

Your Individual Certificate of Rating (ICOR) is in the same LMS. The ICOR access guide gives these steps:

1. Log in to https://lms.deped.gov.ph with the account you used during the NASH.
2. Go to your profile and click "Edit profile".
3. Under Demographics, select your current position, then click "Update profile".
4. Return to your dashboard and open the NASH Batch 2 course.
5. Click "Certificate of Rating", then "View Certificate" to download your ICOR.

The other profile details come from your region's official data and cannot be edited. For a correction, use the online form named in the ICOR guide and coordinate with your SDO or Regional NASH Coordinator. DepEd Memorandum No. 069, s. 2025 also provides for an Individual Development Report (IDR) sent to your DepEd official email address. Keep that address active after the assessment.

## NASH pre-assessment checklist

When your setup is ready, spend your remaining preparation time on content. The [NASH study guide](https://nash.com.ph/blog/nash-study-guide-ppssh) explains what the assessment covers, and the [NASH practice questions with answers](https://nash.com.ph/blog/nash-practice-questions-with-answers) give you timed practice with explanations.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I take the NASH on my personal laptop or a Mac?

Yes, a personal laptop is allowed if it meets the minimum specifications. On Windows 10 (20H2 or later) or Windows 11, install SEB with DepEd's installer. On macOS 10.15 or later, download SEB from safeexambrowser.org. Either way, you need the SEB settings file from your technical officer.

### Do I need my own internet for the NASH?

Yes, plan to bring your own. The Administration Guide tells takers to set up their internet device at their seat, and it allows a pocket Wi-Fi or modem router on the desk. A phone used as a hotspot must stay on the designated table in silent mode.

### What happens to my answers if the internet drops during the NASH?

Your answers are saved. Relaunch SEB, ask the facilitator to type the SEB password, log in again, and click "Continue quiz". The clock keeps running during the disconnection, and no time is added.

### Who gives the SEB password for the NASH?

The Assessment Facilitator types it on your laptop. Takers never receive the SEB password. The facilitator gets it from the Technical Officer on the morning of the assessment and must keep it confidential. The quiz password is different, and the facilitator announces it in the room.

### Can I leave the room when I finish the NASH early?

No. After you submit and complete the evaluation form, log out, close SEB, shut down your laptop and stay seated. No one may leave before the dismissal announcement.
